About this publication

Who counts, and how

The catalogue describes 150 quadruped robots from 66 manufacturers in 14 countries. It is published by KeyResearch in Aarhus, Denmark. This page says where the figures come from, what they do not cover, and who stands behind them.

Everything the catalogue can know

The schema has 33 fields. With 150 robots in the catalogue there are 4,950 possible pieces of information. Every single one of them is accounted for here, and they add up.

1,609 of the 1,618 stated fields carry a source mark. 1,429 point to the manufacturer’s own product page, 180 to a datasheet, a manual or developer documentation on the manufacturer’s own domain. The remaining 9 are the answer no, which has no figure to source.

Unstated fields are counted and shown explicitly in the overview.

How a figure reaches the page

  1. Fetched

We fetch the manufacturer’s own page, datasheet or manual and keep the file as evidence, with its address and the date it was fetched.

  2. Recorded

The figure goes into one of the schema’s 33 fields with a unit and a source. If the manufacturer does not state it, the field becomes not stated. It never becomes an estimate.

  3. Checked

The validator reads the whole catalogue again and stops the build if a figure is missing a unit, a source or a date. If the manufacturer’s metric and imperial figures do not match, we never correct them quietly: either the build stops, or the disagreement stands on the page beside the figure.

  4. Built

The pages are generated afresh from the same files, and the build runs the validator first every time. That is why the site carries 0 figures without a source.

The four states

A figure, a zero, a no and a gap are four different things. They are made to look different on purpose, because that is where catalogue pages lie: a zero turns into an empty cell, and an empty cell turns into a zero. In this catalogue the manufacturers state 10 measured zeros, and 14 times they answer no outright.

The catalogue page ends with a key to these marks. It is not a drawing of them but the very marks the robot pages set, and it also covers the state for what can only be seen in a photo, and the two source marks A and B.

What this site does not do

We do not resell any robot on this site, and we take no payment from the manufacturers.

  • No buy buttons, referral links or enquiry forms. Links to manufacturer websites serve solely as sources.
  • The catalogue assigns no ratings, stars or rankings. No editorial scoring is applied.
  • The site sells nothing and asks you for nothing.
